How to read this list

The list holds 145 casinos. For each one the row shows what we found on the brand's own pages and nothing else: the regulator that licensed it, the smallest deposit it accepts, how long it says a withdrawal takes, the wagering that comes with its offer and the payment methods it names. Where we did not find something on the pages we read, the cell says “Not found” rather than disappearing.

On a phone the row keeps the name, the score, the regulator with its number, the smallest deposit and the payout time; the wagering and the payment methods are on the brand's own card, where nothing is hidden.

The default order is the score. The filters narrow the list by payment method, live tables, stated payout speed and support hours, and the order can be changed to the smallest deposit, to how long the operator has been running, or to how often a brand is searched for — a measurable thing that is not a recommendation.

What the score on each row is

134 of the 145 brands here carry a score. It counts one thing: how much of what we check the brand puts in writing on its own pages — the regulator and the licence number, the payout time, the three bonus terms, the minimum deposit, the support hours and channels, and the responsible-play tools. Ten points over six lines, and every point comes from a field the brand publishes. An empty field scores nothing and the row says which field it was.

Nobody here has opened an account at these casinos, deposited or timed a withdrawal, so the number is not a measure of how a casino treats a player. A brand that publishes everything can still be a poor place to play, and a brand we found little about is not thereby bad — we simply hold less of it.

5 brands hold too little of their own figures for a score to mean anything — fewer than three of the six lines have anything to read at all. They carry a dash and the reason, not a low number, and they stand at the bottom of the list. One more carries a dash for a different reason: the pages it was first built from were not the brand's own site, so its figures have been removed until the official site is read. 5 more carry a dash because we did not find an official site of theirs that we could read. How this score is worked out.

What the licences here actually are

133 of the 145 brands name a regulator on the pages we read, and 118 print a licence number. A printed number is not always one a reader can look up: the Kahnawake Gaming Commission's register lists operators and their domains, not licence numbers, so for a Kahnawake brand the check is the operator's name and the site's address. For 6 brands we did not find a regulator named, and their rows say “Not found”. The brand awaiting a read of its official site is left out of the counts of what we did not find, here and below: its figures were removed, not missed, and its row says “Removed”. So are the 5 brands for which we did not find an official site we could read: we read none of their pages.

A licence says who a player can complain to and whose rules the operator agreed to follow. It says nothing about how fast that operator pays, and the regulators above differ widely in what they will do about a complaint. It is the first thing to check and the last thing to rely on.

Deposits, payouts and what is missing

We found a minimum deposit for 68 brands. For the other 71 we did not find one on the pages we read.

Payout time is where the gaps matter most: 23 brands state it in hours, 9 state it in minutes or as instant, 43 describe it in other terms, and for 64 we did not find a payout time on the pages we read. A missing payout window is worth asking support about before depositing, because it is the number a player finds out about last and remembers longest.

88 brands announce a welcome offer, and for 65 of them we found the wagering that comes with it. A headline percentage without a wagering figure is not an offer you can price, and the row says when we did not find the figure.

The same rule explains the gaps. We found withdrawal limits for 54 brands, responsible-gambling tools for 124, the company behind the site for 126, and support stated around the clock for 61. Those counts are lower than the list is long: they are what we found on the pages we read, not proof that the other brands leave these things out.

What to check before depositing

• Check the licence with the regulator itself, not on the casino's own page — by the number where the register lists numbers, and by the operator's name and the site's address where it does not, as with Kahnawake.
• Read the wagering, the maximum bet allowed while a bonus is active and the expiry — those three decide what an offer is worth.
• Find the withdrawal limit per week or per month; a generous bonus and a low weekly cap do not go together.
• Check which documents verification asks for, and prepare them before the first withdrawal rather than after it.
• Ask support one real question before depositing. The answer, and how long it takes, tells you more than any rating.
