How the disclosure score is worked out

This score does not say a casino is good. It says how much of what we check the casino puts in writing, and how far a reader can check it without taking our word for it. Every point comes from a field the brand publishes on its own pages. Where a field is empty, that emptiness is the score for that line, and we print which line it was.

Ten points, six lines

Licence — 3 points. The regulator keeps a public register and the brand prints its licence number: 3. The register exists but no number is printed: 2. A regulator is named and we could not confirm a register for it: 1. No licence in our facts: 0.

Payout time — 2 points. Stated in minutes or hours: 2. Stated in days: 1.2. A schedule described without a time: 0.8. Not stated: 0.

Bonus terms — 2 points. Wagering, the bet cap while wagering and the expiry, all three: 2. Two of the three: 1.3. One: 0.7. None: 0.

Minimum deposit — 1.5 points. Ten or less in the account currency: 1.5. Thirty or less: 1. Above thirty: 0.6. Stated in cryptocurrency, which we do not convert: 1. Not stated: 0.

Support — 1 point. Round-the-clock and at least two channels named: 1. Round-the-clock only: 0.7. Channels named without hours: 0.4. Neither: 0.

Responsible play — 0.5 points. Limits and self-exclusion tools listed: 0.5. Not listed: 0.

Figures are read in the currency the brand prints them in. We do not convert between currencies, so a deposit stated in cryptocurrency is marked as such and not placed against the cash figures.

What the score does not mean

We have not played at these casinos, tested a withdrawal or contacted support. Nothing here is a measure of how a casino treats a player. A brand can publish everything and still be a poor place to play, and a brand that publishes little is not thereby bad — it is unread. Where we hold too little to work anything out, we print no score rather than a low one.

Why some brands carry no score

A score is printed only when at least three of the six lines have something to read. A brand that publishes almost nothing would otherwise score close to zero, and that number would be a measure of our ignorance rather than of the brand. Where the bar is not cleared, the page carries a dash and a line saying why — and so does every entry in the licence directory, whose own pages have not been read at all.

How many brands clear the bar today is printed under this section, and on the catalogue page: both counts are worked out from the same data as the scores themselves, so neither can drift away from them.

As the data stands today: of the 42 brands read from their own pages, 32 clear that bar and carry a score. The other 10 carry a dash and the reason, and so does each of the 543 entries in the licence directory, whose own pages have not been read at all.
